Event 3: COLOR LIGHT MOTION
Note: My laptop is currently sent for repair so I lost access to the screenshot of me attending the zoom seminar due to it only being stored in my laptop.
For the third event, I participated in an insightful seminar COLOR LIGHT MOTION given by professor and artist Marko Pelijhan. During the seminar, he touched on the long-standing history of art and technology are common in that they are both largely affected by the social and political situations at the time. Moreover, he mentioned that the phenomenon of social and industrial surveillance has gotten poorer but more easily neglected and accepted by citizens due to the wide range of applications and convenience brought by the advancements in technology. People, despite being put under such condition, tend to adapt to and live with the trend instead of engaging in theoretical and philosophical ponderance.
Another interesting aspect that Professor Marko as well as other panelists discussed is the effect of American, more specifically, Californian culture has brought to Europe in the last century. Panelist Andreas gave an example of the book The Wall of Pacific, which revolves around the changes in Europe brought by the paradigm of the US. This aspect was new and meaningful to me because it's a perspective I've never thought of but has clearly explained the styles of many artistic works and practices in Europe during that time period.
Last but not least, I enjoyed seeing many inspirational questions made by my fellow classmates discussing the relationship between arts and sciences/technologies. In particular, there's a question asking about the mutual benefits in the collaboration between artists and engineers/scientists that was answered by one of the panelists, who emphasized that such collaborations nurture more well-rounded and multifaceted approaches to solving real world problems and therefore improving the world.
In conclusion, I enjoyed the seminar and learned a lot, and I'm looking forward to participating in more similar seminars in the future!
